The Deck

Deck Change: Wrapping a towel around oneself to change (typically into or out of a bathing suit) in a public setting.
This is the place where you can talk about the pics, the sport, the weather, and the lack of pictures of deck changes on this site.

Women's Pac-10 Championships

Photo: Arizona Wildcats Pac-10 Champion Seniors.

Conference Championships are the best! I know, I say that about every meet I go to. But, really they are! I was lucky enough to attend the Men's Pac-10 Champs in 2005 as it was in my home pool and this year got to repeat for the ladies. As this post is so late in going up we all know that this talented Conference went on to take 4 of the top 6 places at the NCAA Championships last month.
The really special thing about Conference Championships is that the Graduating Seniors are honored. It is hard enough to graduate from a University without adding a sport to it. These women have already accomplished more than a great number of people will in their whole lives and they are only just beginning!
This time I sat among those cheering for Arizona the first night and UCLA the second. It was strange not to sit with Stanford or USC but the spectator seating was crowded with family and friends. I was wearing Cardinal. The question remains: Was I wearing it for USC or for Stanford? I'll never tell.
Arizona plowed through the meet. But it was Trojan freshman Rebecca Soni who wore the laurels this year as the top swimmer of the Pac 10.
The 200 butterfly had a few bumps right at with the beginning with the starter telling the girls to get on and off the blocks so many times that it became a comedy. And it's always funny until someone's goggles break.

There were alot of laughs and a few tears as teammates spent their last meet together. Sorry there are so few pictures but I had a good time watching and forgot to use my camera one night and was engrossed in the swimming the next.
